Who may qualify to contest as a president of the United Republic of Tanzania?

Any person may contest as the president of the United Republic of Tanzania provides he/she has the qualifications provided for under Article 39(1)(a) – (e) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania. The qualifications are: 

1). Contestant must be a Tanzanian citizen by birth 

2). must not be below the age of 40 years 

3). Must be a member of political Party and the nominee of political party 

4). Must be qualified for being appointed member of parliament or member of the House of Representatives; and 

5). Must not have been convicted by any Court of evading Government for 5 last proceeding years of the date of general election.
