Section
4(1) of The Law of the Child Act[1]
provides that, a child is a person below the age of eighteen years. The legal
definition of a child generally refers to a minor, otherwise known as a person
younger than the age of maturity which is in most countries, below 18 years. In
the United States, a child is defined as an individual who is under the age of
18, unless they are emancipated (legally declared an adult) earlier by a court
order or by marriage.
